Fellowship With God 3

Radio Bible preacher J. Vernon McGee spoke of a little girl who was afraid when she was put to bed alone at night. Her mother told her that Jesus was with her. The little girl said: Yes, but I want someone with a face.

The mother may have known how to have fellowship with the Lord when she was alone but the little girl didn*t. Fellowshipping with God can be the joyful norm for believers. Sadly many of us seem to have joyless lives in which we cannot possibly be fellowshipping with the God of the Bible and spending joyful time with Him alone. I hope and pray you are not a Christian like that. For me and I believe for many others learning to fellowship with God is a lengthy process. I was a slow learner. I did not know that when I was praying I was fellowshipping with God. I did not define it as fellowshipping with God when I sensed His communications and guidance. I did not notice the lower level or non-existent fellowship with Him that happened when I committed some sin. I was slow to become aware that my fellowship with Him was heightened when I was serving Him. I thought the source of my joy was serving Him. In a sense that is true but the greater joy comes from fellowshipping with Him. I can have that when I am still and alone with Him and even when I am doing nothing but waiting upon Him and for Him. He is with us even when He seems to be silent. Fellowship with Him resumes when I have confessed and forsaken my sin and been forgiven.

1 John 1:3: That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 1:9: God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

Psalms 46:10: Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

Psalms 123:2: Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us.

Isaiah 40:31: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Psalms 27:14: Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

Proverbs 20:22: Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.

Hebrews 13:5: Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
